Baseball Recap: Waynflete's Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

Waynflete dropped their record down to 6-2 on Monday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell 6-1 to the Richmond Bobcats. The Flyers were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the four matchups prior), but the Bobcats' pitchers proved too tough.

As for Richmond, the win keeps they at an undefeated 8-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average this season.

For Richmond's part, Rhys Terry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up nine Ks. Terry has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ben Fournier was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenny Mecham, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Waynflete will head out to square off against Traip at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Richmond, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Greenville at 4:00 p.m. The Lakers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.2 runs per game on average), something the Bobcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
