Basketball Recap: Riley Shuford Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Clay

Keystone Heights's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They walked away with a 41-29 win over the Clay Blue Devils. This was a revenge game for the Indians: when they faced off against the Blue Devils back in December of 2024, they had to take a 30-28 defeat.

Keystone Heights' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Riley Shuford, who posted 18 points and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Shuford has scored at least a third of Keystone Heights' points. Another player making a difference was Kadence Massey, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 18 boards.

Keystone Heights smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 34 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, Clay still got an impressive performance from Yuliana Garcia-Rodriguez, who had nine points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Garcia-Rodriguez a new career-high in points. Kelsey Wyatt was another key player, putting up six points and six rebounds.

With the win, Keystone Heights broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-14. As for Clay, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.

Keystone Heights didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-20 loss against Fort White on the 27th. As for Clay, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 46-11 defeat against Bishop Snyder on the 28th.
