Softball Recap: Chapmanville Regional Victorious

Chapmanville Regional and Wayne pushed the score to 20-0 the last time they played Wayne, but on Thursday defenses reigned supreme. The Tigers had just enough and edged out the Pioneers 3-1. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Pioneers: they've now won five in a row.

Chloe Murphy was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooke Christian, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.

Chapmanville Regional's win bumped their record up to 10-5. As for Wayne, they moved to 8-8 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Chapmanville Regional is set to face off against their familiar foe Winfield at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Tigers 3, the Generals 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Wayne will take on rival Sissonville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
