Basketball Recap: Bruton Panthers vs. York Falcons
After flying high against the Tabb Tigers last Thursday, the Bruton Panthers came back down to earth. Bruton took a 56-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Falcons. Bruton was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Falcons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Bruton's loss on Wednesday came despite strong showings from Kareem Davis and Brandon Freeman. Davis scored 14 points along with three steals, while Freeman scored 15 points along with two steals. Freeman is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games he's played. Johnathan Hopkins was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Bruton's loss dropped their record down to 13-5. As for York, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 8-7 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bruton will take on the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Jamestown will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 255th, while the Panthers are ranked 89th). As for York, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Tabb has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 3.
