Football Game Preview: Maple Mountain Golden Eagles vs. Wasatch Wasps

Maple Mountain is 2-8 against Wasatch since October of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Golden Eagles will square off against the Wasps at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Maple Mountain fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Spanish Fork on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 20-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dons.

Even if they lost, Maple Mountain's defense still kept up the pressure with six sacks. Semisi Uluave was especially locked on to Spanish Fork's QB and sacked him twice. Another thorn in the Dons' side was Ethan Antonino, who picked up 0.5 sacks and made 14 total tackles (1.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, there was early excitement for Wasatch after they claimed the first score on Friday, but it was Payson who ended up claiming the real prize. The Wasps fell 37-33 to the Lions. The Wasps were up 19-0 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Wasatch's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Maple Mountain, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.

Maple Mountain strolled past Wasatch in their previous meeting back in September of 2024 by a score of 28-14. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
