St. Mary has gone 8-2 against Mayfield recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Vikings will host the Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. St. Mary hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.
St. Mary managed to slip by Marshall County the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Vikings came up short against the Marshals on Monday, falling 9-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Vikings have suffered since May 2, 2024.
St. Mary saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Morris, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mayfield). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Christian Fellowship a 22-0 shutout on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Cardinals in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won eight in a row.
Mayfield got a massive performance out of Jett Hawkins, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave Hawkins a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyler Simpson, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple.
Mayfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
St. Mary's loss dropped their record down to 15-8. As for Mayfield, their victory bumped their record up to 8-15.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. St. Mary hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .325. However, it's not like Mayfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .331. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
