After a string of four wins, Champaign Central's good fortune finally ran out  on Thursday. They fell just short of the Lincoln Railsplitters by a score of  2-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Maroons of the  2-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture  back in October of 2023.
 Champaign Central started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. The match finished with set scores of 17-25, 25-17,  25-18.
 Lincoln's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was   Paycen Schaefer, who  had 11  digs. That's the most  digs  Schaefer has posted since back in September. Another player making a difference was  Lauren Tedrick, who  had five  digs and one  block.
Champaign Central's loss dropped their record down to 9-22. As for Lincoln, the  victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 12-10.
 Coming up, Champaign Central is taking a road trip to  challenge Richwoods  at 6:30  p.m.  on Tuesday. As for Lincoln, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next  matchup,  a  2-0  defeat against Pleasant Plains on the 10th.
