Basketball Recap: Ridgecroft Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Javion Leary and Antron Gray

Ridgecroft fought the good fight in their overtime game against Southampton on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took an 87-78 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Southampton Indians.

Despite the loss, Ridgecroft had strong showings from Antron Gray, who almost dropped a double-double on 27 points and nine assists, and Javion Leary, who posted 25 points in addition to six boards and three steals. With that strong performance, Leary is now averaging an impressive 15.9 points per game. Another player making a difference was Nacir Lewis, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 13 points.

Tyrell Beverly was nothing short of spectacular for Southampton: he dropped a double-double on 28 points and 17 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Adin Brown, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds.

Ridgecroft's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2.

Ridgecroft didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 64-51 victory against Southampton Academy on the 4th. As for Southampton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 68-62 win against Nottoway on the 4th.
