Recap: Veterans Warhawks vs. Northside Eagles
The Veterans Warhawks''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by Northside 29-0. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Veterans in their matchups with Northside: they've now lost three in a row.
Northside was led to victory by Da?veon Latimore and Jarris Coney. Latimore rushed for 67 yards and two touchdowns, while Coney rushed for 66 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. Northside also got help from Keron Milton jr. who showed off his sure hands for 95 receiving yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Veterans to a paltry 20 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Northside's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Coney and his two sacks.
Veterans' loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 3-6. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 5.0 points per game. As for Northside, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Veterans will square off against Houston County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Houston County presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Veterans in Georgia (Houston County is ranked 25th, while Veterans is ranked 177th). As for Northside, they will head out on the road to face off against Thomas County Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Thomas County Central is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
