Basketball Game Preview: Lamar Vikings vs. Grand Prairie Gophers

The Lamar Vikings will face off against the Grand Prairie Gophers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Last Tuesday, Lamar came up short against Bowie and fell 61-48. The defeat continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Volunteers: they've now lost seven in a row.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Ke'Dren Washington, who posted 20 points and three steals. That's the most points he has posted since back in November of 2024. Dearmondrae Batie was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten boards.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Grand Prairie). They claimed a resounding 74-42 win over Arlington. Given the Gophers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while the Colts are ranked 535th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lamar's loss dropped their record down to 8-17. As for Grand Prairie, they now have a winning record of 11-10.

Lamar came up short against Grand Prairie in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 52-44. Can Lamar avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
