Preview: West Marion Trojans vs. East Marion Eagles
West Marion is 1-9 against East Marion since November of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The West Marion Trojans' road trip will continue as they head out to face the East Marion Eagles at 8:30 p.m. on December 21st.
On Tuesday, West Marion ended up a good deal behind Purvis and lost 67-48. While losing is never fun, West Marion can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 246th, while Purvis is ranked 84th).
Meanwhile, East Marion blew past Lumberton, posting a 55-25 win on the road. That 55-25 margin sets a new team best for East Marion this season.
It was another big night for Donny Anderson, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of East Marion's points. Another player making a difference was Caden Mingo, who scored 11 points.
West Marion bumped their record down to 2-8 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.3 points per game. As for East Marion, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-3.
West Marion won a game that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup two weeks ago, slipping by East Marion 60-59. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Anderson, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
