Preview: Salesianum Sallies vs. Hodgson Vo-Tech Eagles
The Salesianum Sallies will head out on the road to face off against the Hodgson Vo-Tech Eagles at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Salesianum knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully Hodgson Vo-Tech likes a good challenge.
Last Friday, Salesianum faced Middletown in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Salesianum was the clear victor by a 37-14 margin over Middletown. The result was nothing new for Salesianum, who have now won six matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
Meanwhile, Hodgson Vo-Tech beat Appoquinimink 21-14 on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back wins for Hodgson Vo-Tech.
Hodgson Vo-Tech got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Xavier Brown out in front who rushed for 16 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 195 yards and a touchdown. Maki Beach and his 93 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Hodgson Vo-Tech's victory.
Hodgson Vo-Tech's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB seven times. Leading the way was Dwain Baker and his two sacks.
Salesianum's victory was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.4 points per game. As for Hodgson Vo-Tech, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
Salesianum took their win against Hodgson Vo-Tech in their previous meeting back in September of 2022 by a conclusive 21-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Salesianum since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
