Football Recap: Bennington Comes Up Short on the Road Against Waverly

Bennington had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell just short of the Waverly Vikings by a score of 21-19 on Friday. The Badgers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Bennington's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jake Russell, who picked up 215 receiving yards and three TDs, and Ty Bouaphakeo, who threw for 274 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.0 yards per attempt. Russell showed off some serious burst, cutting upfield on a catch for 61 yards.

Nathan Axmann was a one-man wrecking crew For Waverly. as he rushed for 258 yards and a pair of scores.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bennington will welcome Gretna East at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Waverly, they will host Seward at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
