The Pleasant Grove Vikings will take on the Mountain Ridge Sentinels at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Mountain Ridge took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Pleasant Grove, who comes in off a win.
Pleasant Grove is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They walked away with a 9-6 win over Westlake. The victory continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Thunder: they've now won seven in a row.
Keslie Draney was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Draney was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Mary Severe was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Allyson Young was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Pleasant Grove was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westlake only posted a batting average of .286.
Meanwhile, Mountain Ridge fell victim to Bingham and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Miners, falling 10-0. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Sentinels, who until this contest were averaging 3.71 runs allowed.
Pleasant Grove's record now sits at 24-7. As for Mountain Ridge, they moved to 23-5 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Pleasant Grove has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.1 hits per game. However, it's not like Mountain Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
