Softball Recap: Foothill sees their postseason come to a close

Softball Recap: Foothill Cougars vs. Las Plumas Thunderbirds

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Foothill couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell just short of the Las Plumas Thunderbirds by a score of 4-3 on Thursday. Foothill was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Las Plumas apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April.

Elisea Wiegand was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Wiegand has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive pitching appearances. Wiegand was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with.

Wiegand wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Bates, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Another player making a difference was Makenna Polen, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Like Foothill, Las Plumas also got a great game from a two-way player: Mckena Harvey. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Harvey was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Kendal Headley was excellent, going 1-for-4 with a home run.

Foothill's defeat dropped their record down to 20-6. As for Las Plumas, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 22-4-2.

Foothill does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Las Plumas, they are on the road again on Saturday to play Pleasant Valley. Both teams have allowed few runs on average, (Las Plumas: 2.1, Pleasant Valley: 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
