The Marion Giants will venture away from home to take on the Mississinewa Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Marion has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 25.
Marion made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Kokomo, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Giants fell just short of the Wildkats by a score of 11-9 on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Mississinewa got the win against Northfield on Saturday by a conclusive 28-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Indians.
Jacob Schwartz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Mississinewa is 4-2 when Schwartz allows one or fewer hits, but 2-7 otherwise. Schwartz was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with five runs, two stolen bases, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, Brayde Timmons and Seth Yoder did most of the damage at the plate: Timmons went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs, while Yoder went 3-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. Yoder is becoming a predictor of Mississinewa's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-2 (and 2-7 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Farmer, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Mississinewa hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northfield struck out eight times.
Mississinewa's record now sits at 6-9. As for Marion, their loss dropped their record down to 2-16.
Marion came up short against Mississinewa in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, falling 12-7. Can the Giants avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
