League recap: Weiss powers Churchill with hot hitting week

Montgomery County 4A - West league recap: 5/7/12

Danny Weiss was on fire this week, as he led Montgomery County 4A - West with a .560 average, one home run and 12 RBIs. His Churchill team went 2-1.

Whitman made the biggest jump in the standings this week, moving from fifth to third place in the league thanks to a 3-0 record over the past seven days. Meanwhile, Northwest fell hardest in the standings, dropping from third all the way to fifth place after going 1-2 in the past week. Bethesda-Chevy Chase (10-6, 4-1) is the No. 1 team in the league.

The Bulldogs sprayed a league-best 86 hits this week, but still trail the Barons, which holds the season lead in base knocks with 151. Weiss has a team-best 16 hits this year, and Churchill went 2-1 this week.

The pitchers for the Bulldogs were stellar in leading the league with 73 strikeouts this week, but the Vikings maintained their overall lead in that department with 108 Ks for the year. Matt Kogan leads Churchill with 28 strikeouts in 23 innings on the season.



The Bulldogs's Weiss led the league with 14 hits this week. On the season, he's hitting .432 and ranks thirteenth in the league with 16 hits.

Churchill's Danny Weiss threw seven shutout innings in a 11-2 win over Clarksburg on May 3, 2012. He struck out eight, allowing four hits.
