Basketball Game Preview: Sumner Spartans vs. Puyallup Vikings

Sumner and Puyallup are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2019, but not for long. The Sumner Spartans will head out to square off against the Puyallup Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sumner knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 games -- so hopefully Puyallup likes a good challenge.

Sumner is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Lake Stevens just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Saturday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (67-58), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.

Meanwhile, Puyallup earned a 65-56 victory over Lake Washington on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vikings.

Puyallup's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.5 points per game. As for Sumner, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-5.

Sumner came up short against Puyallup in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 61-51. Can Sumner avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
