Basketball Game Preview: Mount Vernon Patriots vs. Freedom Prep Academy Eagles

Mount Vernon is on a five-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Freedom Prep Academy a nine-game streak of away losses also dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Friday. The two teams will face off at 7:00 p.m. without much rest, having both just played. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Mount Vernon is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Pinnacle on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Patriots came up short against the Panthers, falling 59-33. Patriots fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Panthers since Thursday.

Despite their defeat, Mount Vernon saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Hovhannes Mikayelyan, who posted 14 points and six boards, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Mustafa Jalili, who had eight points and eight rebounds.

Meanwhile, Freedom Prep Academy had to suffer through a 73-28 loss at the hands of Maeser Prep Academy. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-12.

Mount Vernon was taken down by Freedom Prep Academy 61-27 in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Patriots were down 35-10.
