Basketball Game Preview: Christ the King Crusaders vs. Corvian Community Cardinals

The Christ the King Crusaders will take on the Corvian Community Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Christ the King has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Corvian Community will arrive with eight straight victories.

Last Tuesday, Christ the King came up short against Mountain Island Charter and fell 77-67.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Corvian Community challenged Langtree Charter Academy on Tuesday. Corvian Community walked away with a 60-49 win over Langtree Charter Academy. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while the Lions are ranked 429th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Corvian Community's win came from a few key players Christ the King will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Doug Quarles III, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. What's more, he also racked up four blocks, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Adrian Scott, who posted eight points and ten boards.

Corvian Community smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive matchups.

Christ the King's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Corvian Community, they pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Things could have been worse for Christ the King, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 69-52 loss to Corvian Community when the teams last played back in February of 2024.
