Softball Game Preview: Lakeland Christian Vikings vs. Lake Gibson Braves

The Lakeland Christian Vikings will take on the Lake Gibson Braves at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Friday, Lakeland Christian narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Winter Haven 2-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vikings.

Riley Merritt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits.

On the hitting side, Lakeland Christian's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Emerson Tyler, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Lake Gibson never let their opponents score on Thursday. They put the hurt on Ridge Community with a sharp 13-0 victory.

The team relied heavily on Brayden Seymour, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Dietz, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Lake Gibson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ridge Community only posted an OBP of .000.

Lakeland Christian's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Lake Gibson, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Lakeland Christian took their win against Lake Gibson in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 8-2. Does Lakeland Christian have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lake Gibson turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
