Baseball Game Preview: Pickerington Central Tigers vs. Canal Winchester Indians

Pickerington Central is a perfect 3-0 against Canal Winchester since March of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Tigers will square off against the Indians at 5:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Pickerington Central's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Logan. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.

Tyler Stalter made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colton Landtiser, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Cole Metz was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Pickerington Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.

While Canal Winchester didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Reynoldsburg on Monday as they made off with a 13-3 win. Considering the Indians have won four matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Canal Winchester has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Pickerington Central, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-5.

Pickerington Central beat Canal Winchester 10-6 when the teams last played on April 9th. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
