Softball Recap: Concordia's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

Concordia faced El Dorado Springs in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Fighting Orioles fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 4-3. The Fighting Orioles' defeat signaled the end of their 12-game winning streak.

Olivia Hemme was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Hemme wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Emily Wilkens, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Concordia's loss dropped their record down to 15-3. As for El Dorado Springs, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-3.

Concordia's road trip will continue as they head out to face Lone Jack at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Fighting Orioles will need to watch out since the Mules have now posted at least ten runs in their last four matches. As for El Dorado Springs, they will face off against Greenfield at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
