Softball Game Preview: Crystal River Pirates vs. Springstead Eagles

Crystal River is on a seven-game streak of home wins, while Springstead is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Pirates will host the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Crystal River 1.6, Springstead 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Crystal River's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They came out on top against Citrus by a score of 5-0. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Hurricanes recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Not much got past Violet Flynn, who gave up just six hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Citrus off the board. Flynn has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 19 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Athena Childs was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two triples and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Tidwell, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Springstead made easy work of Central on Thursday and carried off a 16-0 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by eight runs or more this season.

Springstead has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Crystal River, their win bumped their record up to 17-4.

Crystal River was able to grind out a solid victory over Springstead in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 3-0. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
