Mid-Hoosier league recap: 5/29/12

North Decatur made the biggest jump in the standings this week, moving from ninth to seventh place in the league thanks to a 2-2 record over the past seven days. Meanwhile, Southwestern fell hardest in the standings, dropping from sixth all the way to eigth place after going 2-7 in the past week. Triton Central (20-6, 7-1) is the No. 1 team in Mid-Hoosier.

Connor Hermesch was the hottest hitter in the league this week, racking up a .444 average, one home run and four RBIs. Meanwhile, South Decatur put together a 1-0 week.

The Tigers' pitching was especially stingy this week, allowing 14 hits and nine walks to lead the league in both categories. Triton Central has given up a mere 106 hits on the year, while striking out 240 opposing hitters. Luke Stephenson is the leader in that category with 87 Ks on the season.

The Cougars, the league leader in stolen bases this season with 73, added to their lead in that category with 16 more steals over the past week. Given the green light by manager Joe Hartwell, Matt Gatewood has racked up 12 steals on his own this season for South Decatur.

Austen Pitman was an RBI machine on Tuesday, as he knocked in four runs during Southport's 10-3 win over Triton Central.
