Volleyball Recap: Saturday's Loss Ends Union Academy's Winning Streak

Union Academy and Draughn squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Union Academy had to settle for second. They fell 3-1 to the Wildcats. The Cardinals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Union Academy was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Draughn work for it, especially in the first set. The match finished with set scores of 26-24, 20-25, 25-23, 25-17.

Despite the defeat, Union Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lily Hammonds had 13 digs.

Leading Draughn to victory were Shelby Proffitt and Macy Auton. Proffitt had 24 assists and ten digs, while Auton had 20 digs and three aces. Proffitt has been hot, having posted 13 or more assists the last five times she's played.

Union Academy moved to 21-6 with that loss, which also ended their three-match winning streak. As for Draughn, their win was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-5.

Union Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Draughn, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Pine Lake Prep on the 28th.
