Softball Game Preview: Holy Cross Cougars vs. DuPont Manual Crimsons

The Holy Cross Cougars will venture away from home to challenge the DuPont Manual Crimsons at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Elizabethtown hit Holy Cross with a seven-run fourth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars lost 10-0 to the Panthers. Having soared to a lofty 22 runs in the game before, the Cougars' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

DuPont Manual had taken Mercy down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Monday. The Crimsons fell 9-5 to the Jaguars.

Bailey Fetcher made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Bella Newell, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

DuPont Manual's loss dropped their record down to 16-11. As for Holy Cross, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11.

Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Holy Cross hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .316. However, it's not like DuPont Manual struggles in that department as they've averaged .354. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Holy Cross came up short against DuPont Manual when the teams last played back in May of 2023, falling 6-1. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
