Softball Recap: Concord Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Win

Concord extended their winning streak to six on Tuesday, bumping their season record up to 14-7 in the process. They blew past the Viola Longhorns 11-1. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by seven runs or more this season.

L Cornett spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Concord let M Balentine and L Brackett run wild. Balentine went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double, while Brackett went 3-for-4 with five RBI. Those three hits gave Brackett a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of K Devers, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

As for Viola, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season. Their loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

On Viola's side, Cheyenne Newberry was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Concord didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 19-8 victory against Parkview on the 23rd. Viola has also already played their next game (against Calico Rock), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
