Basketball Recap: South Newton Takes a Loss

South Newton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 28th straight loss dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a 71-30 loss at the hands of the Faith Christian Eagles. The Rebels were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-13.

When it comes to explaining why South Newton lost, don't look at Avalin Bohlinger. Despite the final result, she went 7 for 11 on her way to 18 points and five boards. The dominant performance gave Bohlinger a new career-high in points.

Leading Faith Christian to victory were Mattea Maggio and Johanna Haste. Maggio went 14 of 28 en route to 33 points along with five assists and four steals, while Haste dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds. Faith Christian is 4-2 when Haste posts ten or more boards, but 5-9 otherwise. Caya Stillings was another key player, putting up ten points and five rebounds.

South Newton's defeat dropped their record down to 0-18. As for Faith Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-11 record this season.

South Newton has already played their next contest, a 55-45 loss against North Newton on the 30th. As for Faith Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 69-43 defeat against Tri-County on the 30th.
