Softball Recap: Newman Smith Comes Up Short

Newman Smith was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 34th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against The Colony Cougars, falling 19-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-0 back in March.

Newman Smith saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sofia Gutierrez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. That RBI was Gutierrez's first of the season.

Newman Smith's record is now 0-19. As for The Colony, their victory bumped their record up to 6-12.

Coming up, Newman Smith will challenge Reedy at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. The Lions will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight. As for The Colony, they will square off against Highland Park at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. The Scots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.8 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
