Softball Game Preview: Wyoming Valley West Spartans vs. Tunkhannock Tigers

Wyoming Valley West hasn't had much luck against Tunkhannock recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Spartans will head out on the road to take on the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. Wyoming Valley West has given up an average of 10.9 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Wyoming Valley West is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Wednesday. They lost 19-6 to Dallas.

Isabella Seip made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles. Natalie Geffert was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Tunkhannock came tearing into Thursday's game with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Mountaineers by a score of 6-2.

McKenzie Hannon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Erin Van Ness, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Alli Kinney also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Tunkhannock's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Wyoming Valley West, their loss dropped their record down to 1-12.

Wyoming Valley West suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Tunkhannock when the teams last played back in April. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
