League races set to be solidified with several key contests around the state.

With the regular season winding down, it's hard not to look ahead to what should be a spirited postseason across the state.

First, there are league titles to be decided, though, and Week 8 should go a long way in determining which teams enter the playoffs as league champions.

Speaking of champions, two-time defending Class 5A champion and No. 2 Cherry Creek (Greenwood Village) will be at No. 17 Arapahoe (Centennial). The winner remains undefeated and the unquestioned front-runner in the always tough Centennial League.

In other key 5A games, third-ranked Legend (Parker) is atop the 5A/4A South League, but figures to be tested against area rival Douglas County (Castle Rock) in a matchup of 5-1 teams. Also, No. 16 Pomona (Arvada), fresh off a win against previously undefeated Ralston Valley (Arvada), takes aim at another city rival in 10th-ranked Arvada West. Both teams are currently unbeaten in Jeffco League action.

In Class 4A, the Southern 1 League title could be decided when No. 7 Montrose travels to No. 25 Vista Ridge (Colorado Springs). The winner moves to 3-0 in the league standings. The top game in 3A is up north, with Northridge (Greeley) (5-1) at No. 4 Roosevelt (Johnstown) (6-0).

Also, the 1A ranks features what is always an entertaining matchup, with No. 19 Limon (6-0) visiting longtime rival Wray (5-1) in a North Central League clash. Both teams are undefeated in league play, and Wray has won five in a row after a season-opening loss to unbeaten Centauri (La Jara).

Here's a quick look at what you need to know regarding the top games, teams and players from around the state this week.
