Softball Recap: Independence Patriots vs. Nicholas County Grizzlies
There's no place like home for Independence, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over the Nicholas County Grizzlies on Wednesday. That's more bragging rights for Independence, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
McKenzie Pierce spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive pitching appearances.
At the plate, Keandra Spurlock was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-2. Emma Lilly was another key contributor, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
On Nicholas County's side, Bethany Butcher was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with a home run.
