Softball Recap: Shea Extends Winning Streak to Six

Shea came tearing into Saturday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Middletown Islanders with a sharp 13-6 win. This was a revenge game for the Raiders: when they faced off against the Islanders back in April, they had to take a 22-2 loss.

Taylor Kane spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gianna Quinones was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Genesis Morales, who earned one RBI, three runs, and two stolen bases.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Shea kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.4.

Shea's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Middletown, they now have a losing record of 9-10.

As of now, neither Shea nor the Islanders have any future games scheduled.
