Basketball Recap: Goddard Takes a Loss

Goddard played a tough match on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Lovington Wildcats, falling 66-35. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Rockets have suffered since January 14th.

Goddard lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Isaiah Mestas, who posted 12 points. What's more, he also posted a 57% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Eli Barncastle, who had five points and five rebounds.

Kayle Covington continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Lovington, going 6-for-8 on his way to 21 points and five boards. The game was Covington's eighth in a row with at least 15 points. Elijah Rivero also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Goddard's defeat dropped their record down to 10-14. As for Lovington, their record now sits at 15-10.

Goddard has already played their next contest, a 45-40 win against Artesia on the 21st. As for Lovington, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 64-46 victory against Portales on the 21st.
