Softball Game Preview: Monacan Chiefs vs. Manchester Lancers

Monacan is 1-9 against Manchester since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Chiefs will take on the Lancers at 5:00 p.m. Neither Monacan nor Manchester posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Monacan's offense. They came up short against Midlothian two weeks ago, falling 6-0. That's two games in a row now that the Chiefs have lost by exactly six runs.

Meanwhile, Manchester has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.86 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Wednesday. They lost 13-0 to Clover Hill. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Lancers were not able to get on the board.

Manchester saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Newsom, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Monacan is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-3. As for Manchester, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-3.

Monacan suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Manchester in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Chiefs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
