Basketball Recap: Omar Fierro-Nava Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Show Low

After losing to Show Low the last time they met, Payson decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Payson Longhorns walked away with a 50-39 victory over the Show Low Cougars on Tuesday.

Payson got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Omar Fierro-Nava out in front who went 7 for 13 on his way to 14 points in addition to seven boards and six assists. The dominant performance gave Fierro-Nava a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Hansen, who posted eight points and 17 rebounds.

Payson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive games.

The victory got Payson back to even at 4-4. As for Show Low, they dropped their record down to 1-4 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Payson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 62-55 loss against Florence on the 19th. After both having extra time off, Show Low and Blue Ridge will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Show Low is facing Blue Ridge at the right time seeing as Blue Ridge is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
