Baseball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Jonathan Esponda and Yodelkis Quevedo Lead Mater Academy Charter to Victory

It's playoff time, and Mater Academy Charter had no trouble coming through when it counted. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Everglades Gators a 5-0 shutout on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Gators: they've now won three in a row.

The result came thanks to Jeuri La Rosa's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up 15 Ks. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mater Academy Charter let Yodelkis Quevedo and Jonathan Esponda run wild. Quevedo scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2, while Esponda scored a run while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Rafael Govin, who scored a run and stole three bases.

Mater Academy Charter's record is now 16-9-1. As for Everglades, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-12.

Looking ahead, Mater Academy Charter will challenge Varela at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Vipers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight. Everglades does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
