Softball Recap: Rio Grande Wins Going Away Against Del Norte

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Miyamura, Rio Grande was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Del Norte Knights as Rio Grande made off with a 17-2 win. The match marked the Ravens' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Rio Grande got a great performance from Jaslyn Gallegos as she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.

On the hitting side, Yvette 'Bear' Breneiser was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Ceanna Sanchez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4.

Rio Grande hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in six consecutive games.

Rio Grande's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-5. As for Del Norte, their loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-12.

Looking ahead, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when Rio Grande Ravens duke it out with Eldorado Golden Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Eldorado will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Rio Grande surely won't give up without a fight. As for Del Norte, they will face off against East Mountain at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Del Norte is facing East Mountain at the right time seeing as East Mountain is stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
