Basketball Game Preview: Plainville Cardinals vs. Nickerson Panthers

The Plainville Cardinals will take on the Nickerson Panthers in a tournament on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

On Tuesday, Plainville had to suffer through a 75-37 loss at the hands of Holcomb. The loss put an end to the Cardinals' undefeated start to the season.

Meanwhile, Nickerson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 12th straight loss dating back to last season. They lost to St. John on the road by a 47-31 margin.

Plainville will need to focus on slowing down Noah Weber, one of several Nickerson players who made an impact when they last played. He posted six points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Brawner, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards.

Nickerson's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Plainville, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Plainville lost to Nickerson on the road by a decisive 66-48 margin in their previous matchup back in December of 2017. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
