Basketball Recap: Springfield Beats Coventry for Their Second Straight Win

Springfield won the last time they faced Coventry, and Kendall Wilderman did her part to make sure it happened again. The Springfield Spartans strolled past the Coventry Comets with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 53-37 thanks in part to Wilderman, who posted 27 points and six steals. That makes it 15 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Springfield's points.

Taylor Holmes was another key player, going 5 for 10 on her way to 10 points and five steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points.

Loss or not, Coventry got some senior leadership from Aunna Coteat and Madalyn Matheney. Coteat dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Matheney put up nine points and five boards. With that strong performance, Coteat is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game.

The win made it two in a row for Springfield and bumps their season record up to 8-10. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.5 points over those games. As for Coventry, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-13.

Springfield didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 50-19 defeat against Streetsboro on the 3rd. As for Coventry, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 43-41 victory against Ravenna on the 4th.
