Softball Game Preview: LaGrange Gators vs. Leesville Wampus Cats

LaGrange is 0-9 against Leesville since March of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. The LaGrange Gators will be playing in front of their home fans against the Leesville Wampus Cats at 5:00 p.m.

LaGrange is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 13th straight game dating back to last season on Monday. They took a 14-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of Elizabeth.

Taleah Nickleberry was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Dakhia Alfred was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Leesville had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They never let the Hornets get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. That looming 12-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Wampus Cats yet this season.

Briawna Frusha was a standout: she scored two runs and stole Five bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Frusha is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Ava Brown, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-2.

Leesville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .562. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .517 or higher in three consecutive games.

LaGrange might still be hurting after the 14-7 defeat they got from Leesville in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can LaGrange avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
