Preview: Ashford Yellowjackets vs. Opp Bobcats
The Ashford Yellowjackets will head out on the road to face off against the Opp Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ashford will be strutting in after a win while Opp will be coming in after a defeat.
The third road game was the charm for Ashford, as they earned their first road win of the season. They blew past Northside Methodist Academy 40-20.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ashford to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aaron Lewis, who threw for 245 yards and four touchdowns on only 16 passes. Another player making a difference was Cameron Fields, who picked up 171 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Ashford's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Jes'Ius Ragland.
Meanwhile, Opp fell victim to Straughn's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were outmatched by the Tigers on the road and fell 47-0. While losing is never fun, Opp can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 243rd, while Straughn is ranked 121st).
Ashford has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 4-5 record this season. As for Opp, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-6.
Ashford lost to Opp on the road by a decisive 20-6 margin when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Ashford, Terry Davis (who rushed for 166 yards and three touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
