Baseball Game Preview: Concord Spiders vs. West Cabarrus Wolverines

The Concord Spiders are taking a road trip to take on the West Cabarrus Wolverines at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Friday, Concord came up short against East Rowan and fell 10-6. The Spiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Concord saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Reed Martin, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2. Concord is 3-1 when Martin posts two or more runs, but 1-9 otherwise.

Meanwhile, West Cabarrus got their first taste of in-conference action on Friday and they started things off strong. They skirted past South Iredell 11-10. With that victory, the Wolverines brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

The team relied heavily on Antonio Estevez, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Cage Love was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

The win made it two in a row for West Cabarrus and bumps their season record up to 5-8. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.5 runs over those games. As for Concord, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.

Concord couldn't quite get it done against West Cabarrus when the teams last played back in March of 2022 as they fell 11-7. Can Concord avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
