Football Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Deer Trail's Winning Streak + How To Watch

Deer Trail dropped down to 4-5 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They took a 60-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Kiowa Indians. The Eagles were not able to make up for their loss to the Indians from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

Despite the loss, Deer Trail still got an impressive performance from Jayden Mingee, who picked up 241 receiving yards and four scores, and also rushed for 47 yards and one TD. Mingee was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 67 yards. Chris Manriquez-Bustamante was another key player, having thrown for 259 yards and four touchdowns.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Deer Trail, adding 11 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Preston Bertram, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

As for Kiowa, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

James Brewer went supernova, throwing for 217 yards and six touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes, and also rushing for 35 yards. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (163.2). Zayden Kalisch did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 47 receiving yards.

Coming up, Deer Trail is taking a road trip to take on Briggsdale at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will be up against the Falcons' rather soft defense (which has allowed 53.43 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Kiowa, they will be playing at home against Prairie at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Indians will be up against the Mustangs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 30.11 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
