Baseball Recap: Cleburne County Victorious

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Cleburne County and Cherokee County have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Tuesday. The Cleburne County Tigers walked away with a 7-4 win over the Cherokee County Warriors. For the Tigers, this counts as revenge for the 6-3 victory the Warriors walked away with the last time they faced one another back in June of 2022.

Tyler Rucker was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gavin Robinson, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Gabe Wickersham, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Cleburne County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cherokee County only posted a batting average of .231.

Cleburne County's win bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Cherokee County, they now have a losing record of 9-10.

Cleburne County will have a chance to go back-to-back against Cherokee County: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
