League recap: Stansbury enters state Top 25 with win

3A Region 11 recap Oct. 3, 2012

Stansbury was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Desert Hills 12-7. The Stallions came in at 21 in the state poll after placing at number 26 last week.

Ogden made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,084 from 10,630. The improvement came about via a 36-3 victory over Tooele last week.

Kyle Zundel put up the best numbers through the air as Bear River fell to Morgan. He finished with 15 completions for 237 yards and one touchdown. Zundel's favorite target this week was Garrett Fronk, who caught two passes for 92 yards.

Lantzen Toomer was the best wideout in 3A Region 11 this week as the Trojans beat the Bears. Toomer racked up six receptions for 114 yards. Matt Murdock helped Morgan's passing attack out by catching one ball for 25 yards.

Ky Fisher was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 18 carries, he ran for 140 yards as Grantsville defeated Bear River. Kaleb Ware also contributed to the rushing game with 55 yards on the ground.

Bear River's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bears feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Zundel has thrown for 1150 yards and 13 touchdowns this season, while Colton Jensen has 32 catches for 479 yards. Zundel also leads the league in rushing with 596 yards.

A big matchup in 3A Region 11 this week will be when Chris Wise's team takes on the Cowboys. The Bears are currently in fourth, while Grantsville is in second.
