Basketball Recap: Southside Has No Trouble Against East Carteret

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Lejeune, Southside was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top against the East Carteret Mariners by a score of 65-53. That looming 65-53 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Seahawks yet this season.

It was another big night for Josh Armstrong, who went 10 for 16 to rack up 20 points along with seven assists and six boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Satchell, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 14 points.

Southside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 16 consecutive matches.

East Carteret lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jayedon Watson, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. He is becoming a predictor of East Carteret's success: when he posts at least ten boards the team is 2-1 (and 2-11 when he doesn't). Luke McIntosh was another key player, putting up nine points and eight rebounds.

Southside's victory bumped their record up to 5-14. As for East Carteret, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-12.

Southside has already played their next contest, a 75-50 win against Jones on the 10th. As for East Carteret, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lejeune at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lejeune is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.6 points per game this season.
