Softball Game Preview: Jim Thorpe Olympians vs. Bangor Slaters

The Jim Thorpe Olympians will challenge the Bangor Slaters at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Jim Thorpe is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.

Jim Thorpe fell victim to Northern Lehigh and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 8-0 to the Bulldogs. The Olympians haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Madison Schwartz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She also put up six walks, which were her first of the season.

At the plate, Jim Thorpe saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gloria Strohl, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Strohl's first of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bangor). They put the hurt on Salisbury Township with a sharp 23-8 win on Friday. The Slaters have beaten the Falcons the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Falcons has come to flipping the script.

Jim Thorpe's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Bangor, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
