Petal gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. Everything went their way against the Hattiesburg Tigers as they made off with a 50-28 win. The Panthers pushed the score to 43-14 by the end of the third, a deficit the Tigers cut but never quite recovered from.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bryson Barnes, who rushed for 94 yards and two TDs on only seven carries. Barnes' longest rush was for an impressive 59 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. The team also got some help courtesy of Davion Young, who picked up 93 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Petal wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 27-17 defeat against Ocean Springs on the 5th. As for Hattiesburg, they have also already played their next match, a 31-18 victory against Laurel on the 5th.
